This MoU is to establish cooperative relations between the two institutions, especially to develop academic and cultural interchange. The signing ceremony was held at the main campus of OC in Bremerton, WA. Dr. Marty Cavalluzzi, President of OC, and Mr. Takafumi Goda, President of SGU signed the MoU. December 2018 Dr. Marie Aizawa Phelan, Dean of International Exchange at Shokei Gakuin University, gave a keynote lecture titled “English Language Education in Japan: A Turning Point” at the International Conference on Linguistics in Vietnam, held at University of Danang – University of Science and Education (UED), Vietnam, on December 15. December 2018 December 14, 2018, Shokei Gakuin University signed a Memorandum of Agreement regarding Student Exchange with the University of Danang – University of Science and Education (UED), Vietnam. This MoA is to enhance student exchange between the two institutions. The signing Ceremony was held at UED, Da Nang, Vietnam. Dr. Luu Trang, Rector of UED, and Mr. Takafumi Goda, President of SGU signed the MoA. December 2018 Dr. Seth Clippard, Assistant Professor at Hungkuang University, Taiwan, gave a special lecture titled “In between and beyond: Facets of communication between Americans and Taiwanese” on December 6. November 2018 Dr. Li Xiaoping, Professor and Head of the Japanese Language and Literature Center at Dalian University of Technology, China, gave a special lecture on changes in clothing, food and housing of the Chinese people since the Chinese economic reform on November 28. October 2018 SGU held an International Exchange Fair from October 22-26. During the week, study abroad program participants made presentations about their experiences. Various booths were set up in the Common’s Cafe at SGU where visitors could talk to exchange students, gain information about scholarships, English circles, and SGU sister schools. September 2018 Shokei Gakuin welcomes an exchange student from Hungkuang University, Taiwan for a half-year stay. September 2018 Shokei Gakuin welcomes two exchange students from the School of Foreign Languages of Zhejiang Yuexiu University, China for a year-stay. August 2018 SGU Choir sang at Taiwan-Japan Friendship Concert with Yamaarashi Choir, a choral group of Tainan Zeelandia Dementia Association, and Tsubasa Choir, a choral group of premature dementia support group in Sendai. August 2018 Shokei Gakuin University signed the Pledge of Agreement on UMAP Multilateral Student Exchange Program and became a member of UMAP universities. UMAP, University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific, consists of more than 570 member universities from 35 countries. This agreement will provide various international exchange programs for SGU students. August 2018 Five SGU students visited Seattle, USA to participate two-week language training program. August 2018 Eight SGU students visited Cairns, Australia to participate their internship programs. August 2018 Four SGU students visited Hungkuang University, Taichung, Taiwan to participate their two-week intensive Chinese language and culture program. August 2018 Six SGU students visited Pai Chai University, Daejeon, Korea to participate their two-to-three week intensive Korean language and culture program. July 2018 July 6, 2018, Shokei Gakuin University signed a Memorandum of Agreement with University of Education−the University of Danang (UED), Vietnam. Attending signing from UED were Dr. Luu Trang (Rector), Dr. Tran Xuan Bach (Vice Rector), Dr. Hoang Nam Hai (Dean, Faculty of Primary Education), Dr. Nguyen Duy Phuong (Vice Dean, Faculty of History), Dr. Pham Quy Muoi (Head of Department of Sciences and International Cooperation), Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc (Head of Administrative Department), Dr. Phan Duc Tuan (Head of Training Department), Ms. Ton Nu Dieu Hang (Lecturer, Faculty of Preschool Education). And from Shokei, Dr./Prof. Marie Aizawa Phelan (Dean of International Exchange/Executive Director of International Exchange Center), Prof. Toshiyuki Miyoshi (Professor of the Dept. Human Psychology), Ms. Tomoko Kobayashi (Assistant Manager of Regional and International Division / Chief of International Exchange Group) attended. May 2018 Dr. Marie Aizawa Phelan, professor of Shokei Gakuin University, gave a special lecture on “Kawaii Culture in Japan” at Hungkuang University, Taiwan on May 16. April 2018 Shokei Gakuin welcomes two exchange students from the School of Foreign Languages of Dalian University of Technology, China for a year stay. March 2018 Associate Professor Sadakatsu Tsuchida received an award for his musical contribution from the former president Leonid Kuchma, second President of Ukraine on March 30. March 2018 Six SGU students and Professor Toshiyuki Miyoshi visited the College of Education, University of Da Nang, Vietnam, and participated in international activities, March 20–26. January　2018 Associate Professor, Zhi Shen You, from Dalian University of Technology, China (DUT) gave a special lecture about　 university students’ attitudes and practices on international exchange and corporation in China at SGU on January 17.
